Half a century ago New Zealand welcomed its first Tibetan refugee, Thuten Kesang. Thuten was born and raised in Tibet, then travelled to India to complete his education. Whilst studying, the Chinese began their occupation of Tibet. Tibet - The Home I Left Behind, tells Thuten's remarkable life story.
This project was an honour to work on - I was there from submission of the first draft through to print day. On this project I not only worked on the book design, but also worked with the editor on the read of the story. Thuten has been in the printing business his whole adult life, so when it came to his book I needed to build a strong client relationship and trust to move the design forward.
Thuten's story has also been adapted for film Team Tibet: Home away from Home, it played at the 2017 New Zealand International Film Festival.
