Book design, mixed media lettering & digital collage
The journey to get the World's Rarest Dictionary published was long and winding – but eventually we brought 3 copies of the book into the world. They are each hand-bound in vintage bookcloth, with embossing and gold foil on the cover and foiling inside. The words inside the are a collection sourced from both the microsite, and the in person workshops.
Creative director's Jen & Dara worked on copy and the original proposal. I stepped up and made the dictionary come to life. I initially created a series of drop caps used to divide the dictionary into sections. Each letter is hand painted, then layered with sketched outlines. I focused on creating unique collage elements for each letter. Letters which do not have photographic collages indicate they do not yet have words created to be featured in those sections.

Then the book design framework was designed in partnership with Dara and his copy. Lastly the collages featured on the pages were created. The imagery was photographed by myself and members my creative community as we had a very slim budget. This project is the highlight of my working at Real Chemistry – it combined my love of patient focused content, mixed media and book design.
